WCS provides technical advice to the Royal Government of Government in the development of national policy in areas such as forestry and fisheries. This takes place through a number of mechanisms, from pilot activities conducted at specific sites, such as forest demarcation, to participation in consultations and initiatives such as the development of a National Forestry Program and the Strategic Planning Framework for Fisheries.
One of the principal mechanisms for coordination on technical issues between the Government, donors and NGOs is through the Technical Working Groups (TWG). There are TWGs for each of the main sectors, including Forestry and Fisheries, and they meet regularly to coordinate activities within their sector. The working group defines sector-wide priorities, ensures that activities are harmonised, improves the utilization and mobilization of resources, and strengthens the sector's capacity to contribute to economic growth.
In this respect, the TWGs provide a link between high-level policy dialogue and field implementation/project work. WCS is an active member of the TWGs for both the Forestry sector and the Fisheries sector.
