Human-Wildlife Coexistence

The human-wildlife coexistence team in Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary is addressing the escalating conflict between Asian elephants and human settlements. The team studies why elephants are drawn to specific areas, identifies problem individuals, and devises tailored mitigation strategies that minimize disruption for wildlife and communities. Each incident is met with a rapid response: the team works directly with affected households to investigate the root causes and implement practical solutions. This work is part of a broader effort to understand how shrinking habitats force wildlife closer to people. The goal is to build a foundation for proactive planning that reduces conflict and ensures safer outcomes for both sides. As a new initiative, this program reflects a growing recognition that coexistence must become a central pillar of conservation in landscapes like Keo Seima Wildlife Sanctuary.
