Rivers and Lakes

Our Rivers and Lakes Program tackles the dual crises of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation in Cambodia’s aquatic landscapes. In Koh Kong, targeted efforts to protect the Critically Endangered Southern River Terrapin and Siamese Crocodile have stabilized populations through nest protection and world-class post-release monitoring. Along the Mekong, WCS works with communities to conserve the Asian Giant Softshell Turtle and Royal Turtle by safeguarding nesting sites and reducing exploitation. Across the Tonle Sap, the program addresses overfishing and habitat destruction through integrated wetland conservation and fisheries management, ensuring the lake remains a lifeline for millions of Cambodians.
