The Critical Ecosystems Partnership Fund extended its support to the Cambodia Vulture Project in February 2010, with the announcement of a second award to fund Vulture conservation in Cambodia.
This award will focus on the provision of diclofenac-free food to vultures at 'vulture restaurants' at seven sites across Cambodia; locating, monitoring and protecting vulture colonies; monitoring veterinary use of diclofenac; and advocacy to implement the ban on the veterinary use of diclofenac and reduce accidental poisoning from other sources.
Local capacity building will include training and the development of sustainable finance initiatives to ensure that activities continue after the life time of the project. The project activities are led by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), and other members include Birdlife International, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Angkor Centre for the Conservation Biodiversity (ACCB) and also the General Department of Administration for Nature Conservation and Protection (GDANCP) of the Ministry of Environment (MoE), and the Forestry Administration (FA) and Department of Animal Health (DAH) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).
